You don't want to take a cheap deal and end up with system of poor quality, that generates low amounts electricity - lower amounts means lower savings on your bills, lower payments from the Feed In Tariff and lower amounts to sell back to the grid. Additionally, the system may break down, or perhaps not even last the 25 years that your Feed In Tariff payments are guaranteed for. Every breakdown would be taking a chunk out of your financial reward.

The government has set up an interim scheme offering a one off payment of £300 (Renewable Heat Premium Payment) for households who have a renewable heat system installed after August '11 and before March '12.

The offer is cash limited and once the budget for the scheme reaches its limit (around £15m) there will be no more Renewable Heat Premium Payments.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is an incentive scheme designed to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to move to renewable sources for heating.

Residential systems wont qualify for support until Phase 2, which goes live in October 2012 alongside the Green Deal. DECC have confirmed that RHI will be available for those who've received the premium payment as well as for others who have installed eligible equipment since July 2009.
